The purpose of this time we share is to
take you to a place you have never been before.
For some reason that I cannot explain I am able to
see, hear, and sense many things about horses that other are unable to.
Maybe they never tried.
.
Maybe they do not have the same capabilities I do.
Maybe I was chose to be here for this purpose,
I really do not know.
.
All I really do know is
I see people...lots of people struggle with their horses
and I feel the horse’s pain.
 I feel it intensely.
When I was young, I thought everybody was like this.
It was not until I started going thru my teen years that I
came to realize how indifferent most people really were to
the inner workings of a horse.
.
It always mystified me because
to me, it was so clear & came with no effort whatsoever.
So it has taken me a long time but
I have come to understand what makes me different
and it is OK to be different
because I am so comfortable in the horse world.
I get along with horses much better than with people
unless I am involved with that person in a
riding lesson or preparing for a horse show.
.
From the day we are born, we are constantly urged to
not cry,  not show our true feelings.
To be quiet and content with the way the world is at all times.
Behave and be a good child.
That is the human world.
It has absolutely no bearing whatsoever on the horse world
and it must be set aside.
Separated and well kept for use when we go back into the human world.
The horse world is all about feelings
and trying to figure out people.
.
Horses try desperately to figure us out.
Especially when we start handling, them
and we are communicating with them
.
This is in a foreign language.
 It is bewildering to them
and the only thing they know is do what comes natural,
  to make everything ok,
 except
everything is not ok because people do not understand them
 and a conflict ensues.
The typical horse will give it a few honest tries and then quit in frustration
Maybe you are the same way.
I think I can help with that
bridless/bridless_horse_training_sara_shala_hug.jpg
be a part of my beautiful world
together we can discover all that awaits you
as you discover new ways to communicate with your horse
all  kind people are welcome

ABOVE PHOTO me & clydeI ride him bridless every time i ride him. every day during the winter.10 minutes in a bridle.usual show stuff. then I pull the bridle.I ride him exactly the same. I  ALSO GO MONTHS WITHOUT USING A BRIDLE AT ALL. Riding my Clydesdale bridless is awesome. I WILL TEACH YOU HOW. IS NOT TOOOooo HARD.

horse trainer secrets tips tricks / advice.
it is important when riding bridless to work on the little things
bridless_horse_trainer_.JPG

this photo above was taken as i was out in my trail course walking over logs, bridges, jumping, opening closing gate,  backing, alot of backing, alot of backing thru L'S AND U'S, cones,  SOMETIMES i use a simple ...very light weight... tiny string halter ...and neck rope like this.
bridless_eqipment_horse_.JPG  bridless_training_equipment_.JPG bridless_horse_riding_equipment_.JPG bridless_training advice.JPG
i make all my own trainng equipment.i can make it for you too. i make amost invisable halters and neckropes stronger in the begining.smaller in finished stages of trainng. I MAKE VARIOUS WEIGHTs OF THESE HALTERS, SOME SO TINY YOU CANNOT EVEN SEE THEM UNLESS YOU  ARE UP CLOSE. IN THE BEGINNING OF ALL MY HORSES TRAINING PROGRAMS I ALWAYS PULL MY BRIDLES AFTER EACH REGULAR TRAINING SESSION. yes this is a patience game. you have to be like a good doctorand have lots of patience. when i pull the bridle,i do it very gently. I DO THIS FROM ON THE HORSE and i make myself do it every single timeno matter how my horse is behaving. WHEN my horse REACHes AROUND FOR A CANDY, I GENTLY PULL THE BRIDLE off AND GIVE THE CANDY.  you may have to look closely to see it.training options. it is also an option for you to have this tiny lightweight halter on under your bridle. so when youR horse feels you take off the bridle he will be used to the feeling of you still having control over him even though he cannot feel anything on his head. i always keeps candies in my pocket in case i need to get his attention. this is also the same lightwight string halter i use for  my halterless showmanship training.THERE ARE MANY DIFFERENT VERSIONS OF THIS HEADGEAR. DEPENDING ON YOUR HORSES PERSONALITY YOU MAY NEED A TOTALLY DIFFERENT SETUP  THAN THE NEXT RIDER. THIS TRAINING IS NOT FOR THE FAINT OF HEART. ONCE YOU COMMIT TO IT YOU MUST ALWAYS RIDE YOU HORSE THIS WAY. ALSO It IS IMPORTANT TO GET YOUR HORSE ROCK SOLID ON ALL HIS COMMANDS BEFORE HE IS AROUND OTHER HORSES. if you do all your training at home with no other horses expect problems when you get to a show with lots of  other horses. your horse will act totally different, be warned. i always advise inviting other horses over to ride with, this is really important.the best thing i can advise is to seek out a trainerwho has done this alot like me and spend time with them. once you get the hang of it,it is not really that difficult but if you make mistakes, you can be hurt very  very badly or worse. it is well worth the time and money to take a couple lessons from a trainer like me... sara shalda sarashalda@aol.com.

how i ride my horses bridless how i train for bridless how i solve problems.every bridless horse is very different every rider is too, rule # 1you need to be like a good doctor.  have lots of patience. With no forward motion, it will be a side pass, With forward motion, it will be a passage, A slightly different cue and it becomes a lead change.I focus on five parts of the horse’s body in all training I do.  The head is part one. The neck is part two. The shoulders are part three. The barrel is part four. The hind end is part five.
sara_shalda/clydesdale_horse_trainer_.jpg
These are only the basic five parts. Each control can be manipulated. You must learn these manipulations PERFECTLY and your horse too .The cues must be perfected  until they are invisible..

RHYTHMS. Everything I do on a horse is in a rhythm..Everything.Why.?
because our brains respond to rhythm....Horses too.
 silence has a rhythm..stillness has a rhythm
sara_shalda/sara_shalda_draft_horse_trainer.jpg
FREQUENCIES. A VITAL  part of my awareness when I work with a horse. All my equipment is quiet.
No squeaking, rattling jingling etc. A simple sound to you could be a concentration crusher to your horse...The noises occurring around my horse and I are also noticed..I notice my horses breathing. The rhythm...I notice my breathing. The rhythm. .I notice the sound of the hooves hitting the ground. The rhythm...I notice my horses breathing. The rhythm..
Everything in life must have balance..
I constantly adjust my balance sitting on a horse..My horse constantly adjusts his balance to remain free flowing under me..My discipline must be balanced with praise.
.I choose to be heavy handed with praise.
My horses choose to be heavy handed with effort. It is balanced. .
By far the most important balancing in my life is Respect .
I worship horses. All horses Mine and everyone else’s.horses sense this and respond in kind. It is the reason for my great success with horses. They are my mentors, my healers, my teachers.
 My life..
This is what it takes to achieve bridless.

Materials rope.   Twine.  Small cable.  Cord

easily found at your local hardware store.
You can use it just like this to make a headstall and rein .You can use it just like this to make a headstall and rein of any size. Liquid starch can stiffen it if you choose.I often use  string only for reins and use the leader material for the headstall. My favorite is fishing leader because it slides real easy. The horse does not ever feel it rubbing on their head and it is not bothered by sweat.. or fly spray..which has a lot of
weird chemicals in it that can chew thru some other materials pretty fast. Some people really like the rope halter material. I personally think a horse can feel it on their head no matter how lightweight it is.. They can definitely feel it if it is a rein..Yes ...it is strong and cheap and has great durability. I like sampson brand.Below is one on my many training devices.
headstall Holding one of my bridless training reins in my hand.
WORLDCLYDE/BRIDLESS003.JPG
This would be your view of the horse as you sit on his back.
This is one of my training bridles. As you ride ..just tuck the rein up under the crown of the headstall. The horse won’t even know its there. There will never ever be any pulling on this headstall, IT DOES NOT NEED TO BE VERY STRONG.
.It is for emergencies only if you need to grab your horse..This type of headstall can only be used with very calm dependable horses...If your horse still has flighty moments, stay with HEAVIER rope.
where to start...Start by stopping. Many of our horses can easily stop without pulling back on the reins. .Especially show horses that are heavily worked on boring monotonous routines until perfection is achieved. They love whoa. Start there. Work on it until you never have to pull at all..
Then ad a step or two in reverse..CLYDE BACKING UP.Every time you stop ask to back..place your feet up in front of the horse’s shoulders....Pull your feet back towards you...literally pulling the horse backwards SPURS HELP AT FIRST.BUT DON'T USE THEM HARD OR YOU WILL DEFEAT YOUR PURPOSE.
YOUR HOrSE WONT BACK IF HE FREAKS,HE MUST BE USED TO SPURS..Each time you do this try to have you heels just a tiny bit closer to you. .SOON YOUR FEEL WILL Inch THEIR WAY BACK TO THE GIRTH LINE.
.AND YOU WONT HAVE TO REACH FORWARD AT ALL ANYMORE.JUST DO IT VERY GRADUAL..
Rhythm beads....too noisy. ...DON'T USE THEM  ! Your horse needs to hear your vocal aids.Especially when you are beginning. ...Your horse needs all the re-assurance ..and help you can offer....Vocal aids help for sure...All your equipment needs to be super quiet....No jingling...no rattling....no squeaking. No ringing of cell phones or talking to friends until you get really good...
SITTING SOFTLY...This is a lot easier when you are bareback,At least to me it is ..I stop a lot...
Every single time I stop I take at least one step backwards. It is important the horse stops when and where I tell him to...not 6 steps after....Often times ..I only lope a few strides and stop and back...The back does not need to be lots of steps, a couple is fine... Depending on your horse and how they are used to you treating them.. .it will be to your GREAT benefit to remain very positive throughout this training. I give treats often to show my approval of their efforts
not necessarily their sucsess in their efforts.
treats.I give candy or scratches,Sometimes both,Always hugs, rubs and lots of petting..I also use this time to communicate in a more intimate psychic way..Giving treats is also a great way to keep your horse supple and soft. . MAKE THEM REALLY REACH BACK FAR. .THIS IS SPECIALLY IMPORTANT WITH DRAFT HORSES. .THEY ARE NATURALLY STIFF AND RIGID DUE TO THEIR THICK MUSCLING.
love. IF YOU DO NOT TRULY..AND DEEPLY LOVE YOU HORSE MORE THAN LIFE ITSELF YOU WILL NOT BE CAPABLE OF BRIDLESS UNITY AND SUCCESS.

10 keys to successful Bridless riding

1. Solitude.
When you beginyour bridless adventure, it is important to find a nice quiet place to work with your horse. No people, horses, noise, or distractions. You will not be able to handle that ...for a while.

2.   Consistency.
Every time you ride, you must take off the bridle. I usually ride for 15 minutes then slip off the bridle
while sitting on the horses back. This must be done every time you ride.
It must be done in the same place at the same time
In the beginning the more consistent and ritualistic you make the process, the easier.

3.   Details.
work on the little things first like side passing backing and moving one hoof at a time in any direction, you desire. Your training is made up of tiny building blocks each one is very tiny.
Like the smallest leggo piece you have ever seen.

4.   Encouragement.
Confidence is a biggie for sure.
be extremely generous with encouragement and affection.
just enjoy this training ...your horse needs to have a high desire to please you
because you have nothing to force the issue.

5.  spiritual connection
Personal and intimate level ..both mentally and spiritually. If you do not believe you horse has a spirit to communicate with you,  you will not be able to do this bridless thing.
You must have flawless communication with your horse.

6. Love.
If you do not completely give your total heart mind and soul to your horse during this process, you will fail ..both you and your horse ...will be scarred traumatized..and resentful. The only reason you horse will obey you is because he loves you please you.
Please think seriously, what you can do to please your horse
and do it...alot.

7.       Equipment.
Yes, you do need the proper equipment. make sure you start out with a normal bridle, then transition to a halter, then transition to a lighter halter, then to only a string. One your horse cannot even feel.

8.   Patience.
Ya gotta be like a good doctor and have lots of patience.

9.   Fun.
Make this fun for your horse.  He has to want to do this.

10.   Distractions.
When you get really good, it is important to
invite distractions into you area
like people and other horses in preparation for shows. you must do this
