draft horse
blankets and sheets
..
my
full grown clyde wears a 98..
.,,,,if im layering blankets ,,i can use smaller ones underneath
.
.
.
.
.
.
summertime = fly spray
oil
based only ,,,,i use endure and b-free
.
.
.
.
.

.
.
its is vital my horses stay
stress free to ensure a good coat
.
.
.
stress releases toxins.....
.toxins are poison...poison destroys hair coats faster than anything
.
.
.
that and direct sun....my show horse are out all night.
.
.
..
in-the
summer ......stess free living means .
...coolness and fly spray
.
.
.
lots of ice cubes in the water buckets...
.lots of fly spray...
.be careful....if
you ride your horse and they sweat alot
you must wash off the fly-spray afterwards...
.
.
...when it mixes with excessive
sweat....which is very acidic
you horse skin will peel - like a bad sunburn..
.
.
.
.
..yes you must re apply the
fly spray afterwards
.
.
.
yes it is expensive....i use
only pyrethin oil based products such as
bee-free......endure.....see photos above

how to wash and maintain how to wash - bathe a draft horse a clydesdale

takes two bottles of shampoo to wash all for legs....i wash each
leg 3 - 4 times
2-3 before the body....once after the body....i leave the shampoo sit a few mintes each time

after my scratches washings i always apply conditioner.....but
not when im washing for a show
i do hwever use a moisturizing shampoo

the order of washing for a show is this
1. tail 2. legs 3. legs
4. legs 5. body 6. legs 7. tail
blow drying clydesdale feathers

they must be dried completely......not 80-90%

this is also true when .....blow drying after...scratches treatments....you must blow dry
100% dry.....12 months
a year....
ladders

i use a small lightweight ....4 foot fiberglass ladder...to wash my draft horses....sometimes i put my horse in
a
shoeing stock.....sometimes i dont....depends on how calm the horse is
shoeing stock

hoses

sprayers
shampoos - conditioners

i use panteen more info coming .
.
whiteners....i dont use them....too harsh
.
.
.
.
.
.
how to clean ...condition and detangle a
super nasty nasty horse tail
.
.
.
.
.
1.apply oil. alot of oil.

does not matter what kind of oil..... . baby oil is what i use because it is cheap and.... it works fine but any oil is
fine.
completely saturate the tail.
...all of the tail from tippy top to bottom. ....until it is dripping,...
2. leave alone.
let tail be
alone for 24 hours. ....
let the oil sit and work. ....as the horse moves, and swats flies etc,,,
it will work its way in..... do
no combing or de-tangling for 24 hours
.
sometimes i put it up in a garbage bag and
either vet wrap or duck tape teh heck out of it
,
,
make sure you dont wrap
the tail bone itself
you
will cut off circulation and
your horses tail will
fall off
.
.
.
3. shampoo

after 24
hours get ready to use alot of shampoo
. ...you will be shampooing the tail at least
6 times.
.
during this time...
.do not comb.
...do not detangle..
.
just shampoo .
..really work it in deeply
each shampooing should take
about 15 minutes..
.get
your fingers down to the tail bone
scrub scrub scrub....rub rub rub
.
.
.
.
.
.
4. condition.
after the 6th shampoo.....
apply conditioner and tie up....
do not detangle yet....
.
.
let sit for 20-30 minutes
.
.
.
make sure you have alot of conditioner in tail..
.
as much as you can get in there....until it is dripping off
.
divide into two sections like this
.

.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
5.
detangle
after 20 minutes.....take one section down.
..
..add some water and
.

.
use
only your fingers...
.
.dont
break even one single hair.
/
hair will fall out from the root
thats ok....\
dont
get crazy
you
gota lot more more work to do..
.
do
the other section ...the same way
,
,
,
,
6. shampoo again
shampoo one final time
,
,
,

after moderate detangling with your fingers.. ...wash with shampoo 1 final time
use alot of shampoo...
.
.
.yes this time detangle with your fingers...
do
not break any hairs.....
.do not break any hairs.
....not one hair
,
,
,
,
,
7. final
conditioner
after final shampooing
apply final
conditioner..
..
.detangle thoroughly with fingers
tie
up 15 minutes two sections.
....just like before like this
,
,
,
,
,
8. rinse
do not
rinse out the conditioner all the way..
...only about 75%
,
,
,
,
,
,
9. comb /
final detangle

gently.....only with fingertips.....hold comb very lightly. .
...only two fingers.
..keep left and right sections separate
,
,
,
,
10 braid
braid each
section while still wet..
...braid tighly like this

start immediately under the tail bone.
.
..braid two long sections
like this

secure the end of each section with..elastic bands.
....not
rubber bands..
.not metal pieces..
.just
soft material elastic like this
.

then tie the two sections together.
....like your shoe laces..
..knots
like this
over and over again untill only a small piggytail is left
them
put as many as 20 band on it
one on top of the other tightly

.
.
.
