hi there...........i have a 6"  Mullen mouth in my Clydesdale but he has outgrown it! i cannot seem to find a straight bar in 6.5" and he hates jointed bits..................
What will be the cost for a 6.5" Mullen mouth bit? ...................any additional info b greatly appreciated................kind regards.....Nadia (Scotland)

hello Nadia.....how lovely to hear from you....if you send me a bit to widen and put a Mullen into......it will be 100.00  usd...............if i provide the bit...it depends on the price of the bit....usually workds out to be about 150.00  unless it is a fancy silver show bit then it is alot more.....usually about  250.00.....i can work on any style bit.......do you have a photo of the bit you truly desire....>?.....sara.....

THINGS TO REMEMBER ABOUT DRAFT BITS

1.  MOST DRAFT BITS ARE NOT MADE FOR RIDING

THIS MEANS NEITHER THE DESIGNER NOR THE MANUFACTURER PAYS MUCH ATTENTION TO IMPORTANT THINGS LIKE BALANCE, PURITY OF METALS, TIGHTNESS OF SEALS, PINCH POINTS
STRUCTURAL INTEGRITY, APPLICABLE USAGE, TRAINING USEFULNESS

THEY USUALLY JUST MAKE THEM BIG AND STRONG WHICH IS FINE FOR DRIVING HORSES,NOT FOR RIDING HORSES. IF YOU WANT TO HAVE A REALLY GOOD one that is. IF YOU JUST WANT A TRAIL PLODDER, THEN DON'T WORRY TOO MUCHABOUT WHAT BIT YOU USE. I

...AS A PROFESSIONAL HORSES TRAINER MUST PAY GREAT ATTENTION TO THESE THINGS:

I MUST KEEP AN CLOSE EYE ON CONDITION OF MY EQUIPMENT
I MUST KEEP IT CLEAN
MY BITS MUST STAY OILED IF THEY HAVE ENCASED PIECES

2.
STAINLESS IS ALWAYS PREFERABLE
ITS EASIER TO MODIFY AND ALTER- WELD ETC.
ITS HEALTHIER FOR THE HORSES.
ITS EASIER TO CLEAN .
IT TASTES BETTER.
IT LAST LONGER
.

3. SWEET IRON PORTS THAT ENCOURAGE SALVATION ARE NOT BETTER THAN STAINLESS
IF YOU DON'T BELIEVE ME... PUT one IN YOUR MOUTH. NOW PRETEND THERE IS A RIDER ON YOUR BACK
ASKING YOU TO CONCENTRATE AND PERFORM HIGHLY DEMANDING MANEUVERS.
THE IRON TASTE WORSE. IT IS A DISTRACTION
ANYTHING THAT BOTHERS YOU IS A DISTRACTION.
FLIES. DUST, A BIT THAT MAKES YOU DRUEL ALL OVER THE PLACE.
A RIDER THAT CAN'T MAKE UP HIS MIND WHAT HE WANTS
THIS WILL INHIBIT YOUR TRAINING ,(WITH MOST HORSES, NOT ALL)
COPPER IS GOOD BUT HARDEST TO MODIFY-WELD-ETC

4.  BIGGER IS NOT BETTER
IF YOU WANT A HORSE WITH A LIGHT MOUTH, ONE THAT IS  VERY RESPONSIVE TO
LIGHT CONTACT , SMALLER AND LIGHTER IS BETTER. YOU WANT TO KEEP THE WEIGHT OF THE BIT
AS LIGHT AS POSSIBLE, KEEP THE PORT TINY AND LIGHT AS POSSIBLE.
MANY OF MY SNAFFLES ONLY HAVE A 1/16  OR 1/8  DIAMETER

5.  ONE HORSE NEEDS  DIFFERENT BITS FOR DIFFERENT REASONS
a HORSE'S TRAINING WILL CHANGE. a HORSE'S MOOD WILL CHANGE.
AGE WILL CHANGE. EXPERIENCE WILL CHANGE. RIDER MAY CHANGE

6.  YOU DON'T NEED A BIT
HACKMORES WORK JUST FINE.THEY CAN BE  AS EFFECTIVE AS ANY BIT .
THERE ARE TWO TYPES...MECHANICAL AND NON MECHANICAL

7.  ALWAYS MEASURE YOUR BIT FROM INSIDE DIAMETER
WHERE YOUR HORSES LIPS WILL BE TOUCHING

8.  DON'T BE AFRAID TO TRY NEW BITS
BORROW FROM FRIENDS IF YOU HAVE TO AFTER YOU RIDE FOR A FEW MINUTES
Your HORSE WILL TELL YOU IF THEY LIKE THIS Bit

9.  LISTEN TO YOUR HORSE
they wILL TELL YOU iF A BIT IS BOTHERING THEM...IS PINCHING THEM
TASTES BAD...HITTING SENSITIVE TEETH...IF THEY HAVE A TOOTH ABSCESS

10 . ALWAYS CHANGE THE BITS YOU USE
YOU NEVER WANT YOUR HORSE TO GET TOO USED TO ONE CERTAIN BIT.
MOST HORSE LIKE A CHANGE...SOME DO NOT .
YOU MUST ALWAYS OFFER YOUR HORSE A CHOICE
BE ATTENTIVE TO WHAT THEY ARE TRYING TO TELL YOU.

hi sara. .........I have a two and a half ton problem.       My draft is impossible to control.        She has run me into trees, .....into fences....., tried to take me through a door ...........and will not submit to any additional training. ...........  She is broke to ride but is lazy, ....stubborn .....and uses her size against me..... She knows what I am telling her to do, but refuses to comply......... I was told that a correction bit would help me,..... but it is almost impossible to find a western riding correction bit in a draft size.,,,,,, If you can help me I would be very grateful. Hello,
I have a Belgian cross about 2300lbs. .................. He is a great horse and I have mostly trail rode him but I would like to start working to improve his reining skills and responsiveness. ............ I was interested in your champion silver straight bar fixed cheek 6.5 draft bit. ............... Is this available in stainless? .............. We will not be in the show ring.  Also what is the price of this bit? Or if you have a better suggestion for a bit what would that be? .........Thanks, Lynn...............ps. Another question, ...................I have a great farrier but we are in walking horse country here and it is very hard to get the right type of shoe for him(the draft).  ....................I keep shoes on his front end because we have so much rock here that it is vital to protect him from bruising when trail riding........................ Is it possible to order shoes through you? ........................ I realize he would still have to adjust and fit them to his foot but it would be great to start out using the correct basic shoe.........
Thanks Again, Lynn

thanks lynn  yes i have the bit...three actually....each a bit different...im posting them on my website this weekend.....they wont last long.....one is sterling silver  so is is much more  $$$.......the other two are only silver plate so they are cheaper....  ......but ............a striaght bar is not the greatest port to develop a responsive mouth.....i recomend a snaffle or correction port.....if you are looking for a nice stainless good enough to show in that will develop a soft mouth with good headset........i recomend this one
... and stainless steel bit rings.    or    Billy Royal® Silver Show Bit Ported ...they look like silver but they are only  150.00.......the real siver ones are almost twice that.......................................once your horse gets the feel you want then you can graduate to this one
Arabian Show Bit Silver Low Port   or this one  The best in show bits, ...  or  ... Silver Overlay C Port Show Bit  orBilly Royal Silver C Port Show Bit
i always recommend having several bits custom made for each horse if you really want to get training done right.......diferent bits accomplish different thinkgs.........some very dramatic.......i think you should just start with a good basic training bit....much cheaper and i think it is all yo need right now.................for shoes contact www.anvil.com

 Hello,
I went on your website looking for a bit for my 5 year old Clydesdale.,........ I have had my clyde for over a year now and he was trained in a 7” snaffle that was bought in a tack store. .................I really don’t think it was made for a draft horse but it was the largest I could find. It looks like he needs a bigger bit................ but I thought I would look into actual Draft bits................ Cody did really well while he was in training with this bit but right now he seems to not want to stop and puts his head down .......................and just pulls through the bit and keeps going.................... I know that Cody needs something different in bits but I am not sure what so I was hoping someone could help me out and that’s when I saw your website. ................Are draft bits different in size then a regular size horse bit? ..............Thank you,

p.s. ....please feel free to send me a photo of any bit ...on my website...that caught your =eye

western.............thanks............... Julie

ok julie
lets start with the most affordable
the next step up from the oring would be this bit
BITS/bita003.JPG  its called an Argentine snaffle..i can make it in any size you need....the average full grown draft takes a   6.5 inch wide bit..............its a great bit because you can use it English or western................but there are many more options......i have a two month backorder as of right now....so you should get you order in now if you want to get on the list..............thanks for the interest....let me know what you think of this bit..........sara  Laughing
