With normal light saddle horses... the
older they are the more stable quiet & reliable they become... This is usually what a rider looks forward to.... In
the draft horse version of this reality ...the opposite is true. ...If you are talking about riding them.... The
older the draft, the more laid back and lazy they become....They cannot help it..... It is the way they are designed. ...on
average age 10 is the point of no return ..for most draft horses....if you can even get them to canter, they wont stay in
it very long.... if they do canter it will not be very pretty anymore....they wont volunteer any energy for collection
or softness.....in rare cases, some full blooded draft horses, usually clydesdsles will retain a sufficient amount of energy
to supply the rider with a fun and pleasureable ride...for the trail or show ring.... For the most energy, ...smoothest
prettiest riding gaits and most alert mindset...the younger the better. Unless you are scared. ...Then yes, go for an
older draft....FEAR = FAILURE.... The only way horses have to communicate with us is with their mind.... Listen
to the spirit voice of your horse...... I am acutely tuned into the SPIRIT... and it allows me to say
with confidence ...I can teach you exactly what any horse is thinking.... in that very moment. ....Some subtle.
